Texas Common Application Essay

Some people that I know have made an impact on my life. One of these people who made a positive impact was my dad. He is a strong-minded, determined guy with character who showed me a lot of stuff essential for a living.
One example was that he told me about when he went to some kind of college. He told me about how hard he worked and studied in the college. One time, he even stayed up all night reading and studing for an important test and was determined to try at his hardest. He encouraged me to work and study harder and never give up when things get hard and seem difficult. He also reminded me that I was lucky to have somebody to support me for my future, while he had to work for his future by himself, without any help.
Another example is that he showed me how to do and fix stuff by yourself and to save money, instead of letting someone do it for you for a price. One time, he showed me how to change the car's battery and also to change a flat tire. He also tried to showed me the simple steps on how to make an oil change. I think I still sort of remember some of the steps, while I already forgot some of them, but I agree that these lessons he is showing me are very useful and productive if I want to do things myself without having someone to do it. He also told me if I want to learn something new, I should go find out what my dad is doing with the car or other thing that needs to be fixed or checked.
Also he taught me the basic lessons on how to drive. For example, he showed me what is the brake, the accelerator and how to turn with the steering wheel. He also showed me about what the gauges and meters are suppose to indicate and how to go in reverse. He also showed me the basics of safety when driving; an example of this is do not go too fast and too slow because it is dangerous and somebody might get killed by crashing into one another. If a car gets too close, merge to another available part of the road and to avoid crashes. Always wear your seat belt and have your eyes on the road and stay alert of what is happening.
My dad has really made a great impact on my life. If it wasn't for him, I would probably not know how to deal with problems and I might miss out a lot of important imformation about life and its situations.
